The Carta 1300 screen is gentle on the eyes, even during long reading sessions. It truly takes the reading experience to a whole new level! It’s become my go-to device, replacing endless doomscrolling with meaningful reading, allowing me to enjoy books anytime, anywhere.

This VIWOODS AiPaper Reader is impressively lightweight, feels like half the weight of my smartphone. Easily slips into a pocket. The metal frame give it a premium feel with no hint of plastic, making the overall build quality excellent. As far as I know, VIWOODS is the only one using the latest Android 16 processor, which makes using third-party apps for reading seamless, both Kindle and Kobo work perfectly without any issues. The AI feature has been helpful, especially during study sessions, and I’m looking forward to future software updates that could add even more functionality.

Absolutely love this little device! I own kindles which I love but I use this as my “purse” ereader for on the go. It’s cute and micro. Easy to unbox and immediately start using. Love that I can customize the wallpaper (took a bit of research to figure out but easy enough). I plan on purchasing an etsy boox Palma sleeve for protection since they are about the same size and there’s not a lot of cute cases available yet! It DOES come with a basic black shell case though. I just wanted something cute. 10/10 recommend!

It has become an invaluable repository for insights.

Second, I can save my AI conversations and queries to knowledge base. It functions like a notebook of insights. Super handy to revisit those past conversations, which helps cement the knowledge for good.

I've been using the Viwoods AiPaper Reader as my carry everywhere ereader. It's slim, surprisingly light, and looks really sleek. The system is very quick and responsive, and the text is sharp and clear with great contrast. I also love the page-turn buttons; they're perfectly placed and give a nice tactile option instead of always swiping. Pretty impressed with Viwoods entry into the ultra-compact, portable e-reader market.

The AiPaper Reader turned out to be exactly what I needed! The more I used it, the more it became part of my daily routine.

One of the most refreshing aspects is the lack of constant notifications, apart from calls and messages. Starting my day without being bombarded by alerts and only checking updates later on my computer has made mornings feel much calmer and more focused.

The device itself is incredibly well-made. The e-ink screen is sharp and clear, making it perfect for reading eBooks, while being far gentler on the eyes than regular screens. So far, I’ve experienced no bugs, and the overall experience has been smooth.

I also use the device to read French articles for study purposes, and the built-in AI feature has been surprisingly helpful. When using third-party apps to read, I often take screenshots of useful information to organize into my knowledge base. Annotating these screenshots allows me to quickly reference important points later, which has made studying much more efficient.

This device strikes a great balance between functionality and simplicity, and it’s become an invaluable part of my daily life.

This is a fantastic reader. The size, the build quality, the crispness of text — all great! My main use is as a screen for a writer deck so I've paired it with a bluetooth keyboard and now have the ultimate setup for portable writing anywhere. Very happy with this. My only desire is that it work with a stylus.

This is my second Viwoods e-ink device, and once again, it doesn’t disappoint. I was first drawn to the brand by the 10.7" AiPaper I picked up last Black Friday. That device won me over with its truly paper-like writing experience—it brought back the joy of reading in a way I hadn’t felt in years. Even the AI features, which I hadn’t expected much from, turned out to be incredibly helpful. They deepened my understanding of what I was reading without pulling me off-topic. I ended up recommending it to my colleagues.

That said, I still couldn’t avoid reading on my phone, especially when I was out and about. The arrival of this phone-sized AiPaper reader fills that gap perfectly. It’s similar in size to an iPhone—slightly larger than my iPhone 14 Pro—but noticeably slimmer and lighter. It feels great in the hand and is extremely portable. The e-ink display significantly reduces eye strain during long reading sessions, which is exactly why I don’t mind carrying an extra device solely for reading.

The app store offers 42 apps, which is more than enough for everyday reading needs and a handful of essential tools. Power consumption has been impressive so far; after several hours of reading, I didn’t notice any meaningful drop in battery life.

It comes with a protective case, though the fit is a bit tight when sliding the device in. I also find myself wishing it supported a stylus—I often get the urge to jot something down, and I’d love to play with something like Sokudo on this device someday.

Once again, the built-in AI is a real bonus. It enriches my reading comprehension and provides helpful depth without disrupting the flow.

Overall, this is a fantastic device for reading on the go！

What I Love:
The screen isn't as stark white as other e-ink devices, which for me is a HUGE plus. Any e-ink device that is bright white causes massive fatigue for me. I wouldn't say it's super dark at all either—it's less gray than the Light Phone 2 if anyone has used one. Scrolling my finger around the screen has almost a paper-like sound to it.
The device has a metal body which is nice, and I love the lightweight feeling of it. The fingerprint sensor is higher up on the side where you won't accidentally unlock it when you place it in your pocket. It comes with a slim case included.

Unexpected Phone Features:
I did NOT expect it to work as a phone out of the box—it has SMS and a phone dialer preinstalled. I'm using this on T-Mobile USA with a physical SIM. The preinstalled keyboard app seems nice to type on with little to no typos. FYI if your also considering a Boox palma pro 2 it does NOT have SMS/Calling capabilities like this viwoods.

Performance:
There are several refresh modes, and the thing that I love about this device is that it doesn't use the weird strong motion blur algorithm to fake smoothness like most modern eink devices are sadly introducing which causes strain. The device overall feels very responsive and the gesture navigation seems instant. I can confirm that it does support Google Play if you enable it in settings. It does not have a warm front light, only cool, which for me isn't a deal breaker since I find it wrong using LED on e-ink. It does also have a contrast slider too.
Minor Drawback:
If they would have added a speaker to this device it would have been perfect. I wouldn't say for me it's a deal breaker since I have KZ Duet USB-C earbuds which sound great and have a mic.

Bottom Line:
I hate that I love this device because I just also bought the Palma 2 Pro which I have been enjoying too. I think this is a solid device for the money. I would happily pay double for a Pro model that included a speaker/ear speaker, camera, and more RAM.

Viwoods if your reading this continue making devices with this slight gray eink panel its soft on the eyes, the viwoods tablets are much brighter and cause bad eyestrain.

Pretty impressed with Viwoods entry into the ultra-compact, portable e-reader market.

I just realized my main reader currently is a 13 in boox and this cute little reader… The purchase of Reader doubled my read time per day! I literally replace it with doomscrolling and can read anywhere anytime. It’s awesome.

Display is awesome and I am still acclimating to the software. Overall quality for the price.

Excellent device. Great screen and fairly responsive. Only minor caveat is lack of flexibility for home screen display.

The AI voice query feature truly impressed me. It’s much faster and more convenient than typing or handwriting, and as far as I know, AiPaer Reader is the only e ink ereader offering this functionality. The ability to save AI responses directly to a knowledge base for easy reference later is incredibly practical, especially for studying and organizing key information.

My girlfriend use it for a two month and she is happy with that

Very happy with this reader. Once I got Google Play working and I figured out that some reader apps create much less ghosting (Kindle & readEra work best for me) I really like this device. Learning what screen setting to use in various media types also made me appreciate the device even more. Don't let lack of warm light deter you, use reader app settings to adjust brightness and dark modes for nighttime reading.

Best e-reader purchase I have made. Formerly a Boox Palma Pro user, and this feels like the product it should have been. Thinner than the boox, it is nice to hold in the hand. Performance feels snappier but is most evident using the Kindle app, having almost zero false page turns. It feels like using a regular Kindle. Except I also have cellular data connectivity and the ability to run WhatsApp, Instapaper and other android apps. Only negatives are the loud clicks on the page turns buttons (but they work!) and the stupid AI button which I can’t seem to disable and am always accidentally pressing. At least its easy to backswipe it away. The fingerprint reader is fast and usually accurate. Had purchased the new Boox Palma Pro 2 in color, but its screen was markedly grey and poor quality. Glad I returned it to buy this device.

Great display. Superior compared to other e ink displays. The Operating System and System Navigation take a little bit to get used to compared to say, a Motorola or Samsung Galaxy Android phone, but once you get used to it, it's easy.

I love this ereader so much. It’s super light so it can go with you everywhere, fits perfectly in your hand, backlit so you can read in bed, easy to turn pages with a physical button or with a swipe. All the apps you use to read are preloaded so super easy to download books. I don’t really use the AI function but if that is important to you it’s there. Would highly recommend. I read so many more books now. Easy on your eyes and I carry it everywhere and read while I’m waiting in line, on the train wherever.

Extremely clear, decent lasting battery, easy to use, Google play store apps. I love this.

I got this because I wanted to offload my ebook reading and audiobook listening from my phone to a similar-sized device. This works perfectly for that purpose. Most of my books are already in Kindle format, and the mini makes a lovely pocket-sized Kindle reader. With access to Google Play, I was also able to download and set up Audible and Libro apps to bring in my audiobook collection. And finally, for a couple of audiobooks for which I had MP3 files on my Mac laptop, I was able to connect with a USB C cable and use an Android file transfer utility to bring the files into a generic audiobook player app. So all good there.

I had some problems pressing buttons accidentally when I picked the device up or put it in my pocket. Using a the (separate and somewhat pricey) folio cover improved that situation significantly. I can now keep my phone and the ViWoods device together in the same trouser pocket without worrying about scratching either screen. (There IS a setting, by the way, to turn on the reader when you open the folio cover.)

The AI access is occasionally useful for looking up answers to questions about something I’m reading or listening to, but I don’t have much experience with that yet.

So far, I have quite a bit stored on it. The audiobooks obviously take up more space than the ebooks, but I have the complete Arkangel Shakespeare series in Audible’s high-quality download format, along with three different recordings of the complete Bible, and quite a few others, and am still only at about 50% in the storage department, so not many worries there. I wouldn’t mind an option to plug in a memory card, but I haven’t run up against a wall there yet.

I’m actually thinking about getting a larger Viwoods device as well, having been impressed both with the quality of this one and the rapid answers I’ve gotten to a handful of tech support questions I had.
